Shopping for makeup online just got a lot easier

Shopping for makeup online requires a small leap of faith. Not being able to see or touch a product in person means there’s always a chance that it’s not what you expected once it arrives at your door. Online reviews can be hit or miss… One person can love something while another gives it zero stars, so we just fork over our credit card and hope for the best, right?

If this sounds familiar, check out Wheesearch, a new beauty platform that aggregates reviews to give you a better idea of a product’s real-life details—or lets you search for makeup based on your preferences or desires (such as smell, coverage, shine, sparkle, color and undertone). There’s also a great selection of product-centric videos.

For example, I went to the lipstick section and clicked on NARS Velvet Lip Glide. Based on consumer feedback, I learned it’s not shiny, a little scented, somewhat pricy, has great coverage and it got an approximate rating of six out of 10. From there, I could click to buy it online, save it for later or leave my own personal feedback to further help the Wheesearch community.

Sure, this is definitely a helpful tool when researching a product that you might not be able to “meet” in person, but the “drying” and “a bit irritating” ratings are especially useful for those who are sensitive to certain ingredients or formulations. (I, for one, can’t wear sparkly Dior glosses because I find them to be very uncomfortable on my lips.)

So the next time you’re virtually updating your makeup bag, head over to Wheesearch before you “add to cart” and cross your fingers!
