2020 has a dress code all its own
It's just about 1pm on Day 2 of post-Election Day purgatory. I’ve been trying keep busy to avoid turning on the TV and getting sucked into the constant not-so-breaking BREAKING NEWS alerts, so I took care of stuff around the house and went for a three-mile walk this morning. I was feeling pretty good, but as soon as I got out of the shower I was hit with a raging headache—and with no sign of relief from the three Advil I took, my bed is looking more and more attractive. As it turns out, my new approach to dressing makes it a lot easier to transition from my office to my room.
Remember when “desk to drinks” and “day to evening” dressing was a thing? I’m going way back to when I still worked in an office (and actually went out after work), but I would plan outfits strategically so I could be relatively comfy at my desk all day and be ready for a night on the town thanks to a shoe change, a little extra makeup and a clutch that were tucked inside my totebag.
These days, I’m all about “daylight to night-night” dressing. After I work out, check the day’s household tasks off my list and take a shower, my go-to “look” is most likely a lounge set, sweatsuit or flowy dress that I ultimately crawl into bed wearing at the end of the day. Think about it… Working from home means “desk” and “drinks” are basically synonymous, and other than making dinner there’s no transition from day to evening.
I’ve also come to find that my “day to doze” ensembles are perfectly appropriate when I actually leave the house. For example, Trader Joe’s is the only supermarket I’ve stepped foot in since March, and I like to go right when they open in hopes the store is empty and freshly-cleaned. I woke up late (8:15!) the last time I needed to go so I rolled out of bed in my tank top and black leggings, threw on a light Nili Lotan sweater and “dad” sneakers and looked cute (if I may say so myself) with no one being the wiser that I was still in my PJs. I could really be down with this approach to dressing for the long-term.
This all brings me to my latest obsession, which has me bed-ready at all times: Les Girls Les Boys. This British brand offers intimates, PJs, loungewear, swimwear and more with a somewhat blurry line between what’s for women and what’s for men. The matching set on my body right now is comprised of the Cotton Jersey Tank Top (shown on both male and female models) and the Cotton Jersey Boxers (which live on the “Les Boys” section of the site). Together, these pieces create the perfect comfy-casual outfit that I can literally wear 24 hours a day, both in and out of the house—and the boxers get bonus points for the drop-crotch. (I have pink and black sets—along with two pairs of their Classic Woven Boxers that are amazing, too.) I highly recommend checking out the site, and I can practically guarantee you’ll find plenty of options that will take you from day to night, 2020 style.
P.S. Since real bras are so 2019, you may want to upgrade your underpinnings as well. I’m living in b.tempted by Wacoal’s Future Foundation Bra. Not only is it one-size-fits-all, it’s on sale at Nordstrom for just $12!
