A brand extension I can get behind

A brand extension I can get behind

I’ll be honest… I’m kind of over this whole celebrities-launching-skincare-lines thing. Believe me, if I could look like J. Lo just by using the products she’s slapped her name on, I’d be all over them—but the most likely scenario is that a formulator paid a hefty sum to have her agree to slap her name on the products they created. (I feel the same way about celebrity fragrances.)

But I will say that I am into the idea of lifestyle and wellness brands branching out into skincare, because these elements work together to create a comprehensive approach to self-care. The latest launch (as in yesterday) is from Alo Yoga, and their Glow System for face and body is all about clean products powered by amla, a super-berry that's rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants.

For face, there’s the Enzyme Cleanser, Radiance Serum and Luminizing Moisturizer—along with a body wash and lotion. The real star (in my opinion) is the Head-to-Toe Glow Oil, which as the name implies, can be used anywhere and everywhere including your hair and face. Rounding out the offerings is the Magnesium Reset Spray, which soothes achy muscles, calms the mind and might just even help you sleep.

Unlike celebrities who have a team of professionals on speed-dial to take care of their hair, skin, diet, fitness (and the resources to do just about anything to improve the appearance of their face and body), wellness companies merely give us the tools we need to practice self-care—and it’s up to us to use them. Since we all want to feel good inside and out, skincare is just a natural next step.
