Hair protection that has withstood the test of time

Early on in my relationship with my now-husband, he got a glimpse of me in a shower cap—and let’s just say he didn’t hold back about telling me how un-sexy it was. Believe me, I get it… Shower caps still remind me of the game Old Maid, but they’re essential for prolonging the life of a blowout nonetheless. I started thinking about hair caps again after seeing all of the 60s and 70s-inspired looks that came sauntering down the Fashion Month runways—and here are two that fit in just as well now as they would have decades ago.

We all have a shower cap or two, even if it’s one of those cheap plastic ones you steal from a hotel. But why not step up your shower-cap game with something cute? This new one from Klorane (the brand behind the best dry shampoo EVER) has adorable illustrations of its cult product, plus a soft terrycloth lining.  Here’s a little tip: Flip it inside out and slip in on when doing a deep-conditioning treatment to lock-in maximum moisture. (It’s also machine washable, which is a major bonus.)

I’m not sure how my husband would feel about this one (actually, I do), but I’m kind of obsessed with La Decollette’s Beautycap. Designed to prevent breakage caused by friction from your pillow, clips and rubberbands, this retro-chic satin cap helps you wake up with smooth, shiny strands every morning. Ideal if you wash your hair at night, this is definitely a different way to avoid looking like you have rat’s nest on your head after sleeping on your freshly styled hair.

So dish… Are you in or out on hair caps?
