We have a bit of a nail fetish, and perhaps you’ve noticed our weekly manicures right here on IBB. We look forward to this 30-minute break in our hectic schedule, and arriving early to talk about the latest and greatest with the salon’s owner is part of the routine. (We take credit for introducing her to Baby Foot as well as some lesser-known lines.) Our manicurist has come to look forward to our weekly appointment as well, just to see what color we show up with. She’s brutally honest (“Are you sure you want to go with this color?”), and gets almost excited as we do when we come armed with a new brand.
But our neck of the woods (Boca Raton, Florida to be exact) lags behind when it comes to nail art, which is why we get particularly excited when we hear about a fabulous new nail destination—even if it’s almost 3,000 miles away. Los Angeles, meet MARS the Salon, and make it your business to check out this luxurious Japanese-inspired West Hollywood salon and spa.
With all of our sights set on fall (despite still-balmy temperatures everywhere), MARS owner Hiroko Fujikawa sees black as a big trend, but she’s using it as an edgy accent. Think colorblocking, black tips and other creative placements that take a single-color mani to another level without going goth… We think a trip to the west coast might be in order!
