Anyone who’s ever tried Oribe’s luxe hair products will say the same thing: “I love the smell!” In case you were wondering, that signature scent, called Cote d’Azur, was created by one of France’s most storied fragrance houses—and the blend of Calabrian bergamot, white butterfly jasmine and sandalwood is so admired that it’s been bottled for use from head to toe (including your hair).
I first got wind (excuse the pun) of this fragrance last fall, and I stalked my hair salon until they finally received it. I was so excited to try it when it eventually arrived that I made a special trip to get a whiff, and yes, it’s exactly the scent you get from your Dry Texturizing Spray.
I’m a big believer in, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” which is why I usually pass on reviewing a product I didn’t like. But in this case, SO many of us love the Oribe scent, I had to tell the truth. I’m sad to report that the scent was fleeting—as if it was practically gone by the time I got back into the car. Boo. Believe me, I was as disappointed as you are.
I never test-drove the second Oribe scent, Silver Pearl, because I had an Abercrombie & Fitch flashback upon my first whiff. The mix of leather, bamboo and green fig seemed more appropriate for a high school party than a meeting, so I moved on without giving it a second thought.
So in a nutshell, sometimes it’s best for a beauty brand to stick to what they know. And in this case, Oribe should stick with haircare—and I’ll remain a loyal customer.
