Serious skincare without the bad side effects

I can admit that at times, I’m my skin’s worst enemy. Part of my job is trying the latest and greatest products, but I’ve been known to overdo it, and even injure myself slightly in the process. One dermatologist told me I was over-exfoliating, and that laser company wasn’t lying when they said their hair removal device was not intended for facial use. So one of my new year’s resolutions is to be kinder to my skin (and hope that it will return the favor with a youthful, radiant glow), and I’m kicking off 2014 with Environ Skin Care.

This South African brand’s approach does “not destroy the integrity of the epidermis,” but it does harness the power of vitamins, peptides and other proven ingredients to achieve maximum results. And since the products are available through doctors, medi-spas and skincare professionals who are overseen by an actual physician, you know they’re up to something good.

I’m using the AVST Cleansing Lotion, which is a non-foaming cleanser that does a great job at removing makeup and oil at the end of the day. The unscented formula is fortified with vitamin A (the precursor of Retin-A) to help with collagen production that improves those fine lines and wrinkles, along with antioxidant vitamin C, olive oil-based hydrators and smoothing jojoba seed oil. It’s leaves absolutely no residue behind, but it doesn leave skin feeling moisturized and super-comfortable. After cleansing, I follow with the AVST Moisturizing Toner, which further hydrates the skin while helping to even out that pesky discoloration and smooth the skin’s surface. Its ingredients include antioxidant (and anti-inflammatory) honeybush extract plus barrier-boosting pro-vitamin B5, brightening niacinamide and exfoliating sodium lactate. Together, these two products have already made a difference in my skin, and it’s looking absolutely happy and healthy.

I’m also really into the AVST Hydrating Exfoliant Masque, which (as the name implies) delivers extra moisture while mildly exfoliating. As an added bonus, it also contains kaolin clay to draw out impurities and excess oil. You can leave it on for 10-20 minutes or even overnight, since it becomes transparent and almost absorbs as it dries. It’s gentle enough to use every day, rinses off easily with water and leaves soft, supple skin behind.

So if you’re looking for a new skincare routine that delivers results without the unwanted side effects associated with harsh ingredients, I’d say Environ is for you, too.
