Are beauty bars not the best thing to happen in, like, forever? From blowouts to braids and even extensions, it’s nice to make an appointment at a place that zeroes in on one type of service and does it right—while doing it quickly and relatively inexpensively at that. I know I’ll probably have to retract this statement sooner rather than later, but it seems we’ve reached the final frontier: The makeup bar. And I’m super-excited to check out Pucker when I’m in New York City next month.
When I have a major event, I usually make an appointment at a department store cosmetics counter, which I get made up and buy a few of the products to alleviate my guilt. Sure, I could go to a number of local salons to get my makeup done by the resident artist, but have you seen some of those ladies? No thank you. That’s why Pucker is so genius… Celebrity makeup artist Julio Sandino teamed up with entrepreneur Hiyam McKelvey to create a gem of a spot where you pay $50 for one-on-one time with a professional artist, without the pressure to purchase anything. Oh, and they also offer a “quickie,” brow shaping and lashes.
With a townhouse feel, you’re more than welcome to lounge around and have a cocktail rather than being rushed out the door. Once your makeup is done, you can pop into a private dressing room to slip into your event ensemble, or touch up your tresses in the fully stocked vanity area. And possibly the most fabulous highlight is the “selfie station.” Kitted out with professional lighting, you’re guaranteed a gorgeous shot that just might become your next Facebook or Instagram profile picture. Can. Not. Wait.
