A totally different kind of hair supplement
Hair supplements aren’t anything new, and they usually contain a blend of biotin, vitamins and botanical extracts to promote growth. I’m proof that they work, so I definitely see the upside of adding them into your daily routine. But I never really imagined these pills going beyond making hair grow longer and stronger—until I learned about Ouai’s new range of supplements designed for—wait for it—specific hair types!
Available in formulas for Thin, Dry and Oily hair, at the very least these might be the chicest-looking vitamins you’ve ever taken. The Thin version isn’t all that radically different than other supplements designed for thinning hair, but a few ingredients did jump out at me. Specifically, they contain Ashwaganda to reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol and a sulfur-based compound called MSM that (upon doing my own research) apparently has far-reaching benefits for the joints, allergies, gut health and, apparently, the hair.
The Dry formula contains omega-3 fatty acids, silica, vitamin E and iron to nourish the hair follicles, replenish moisture and restore shine—although I’m unsure how taking a pill can make an difference in the condition of the lengths of the hair. But, I suppose these ingredients could make a difference in the quality of new hair growth.
I’m most intrigued by the Oily formula because my hair most definitely lies on this end of the spectrum. These supplements contain green tea extract, niacin and vitamin A to restore the scalp’s natural balance and minimize oil production, which sounds fabulous to me!
I’m totally open-minded when it comes to optimizing beauty from the inside-out, and I’m totally giving kudos to Jen Atkin (celebrity stylist and Ouai founder) for coming up with this brilliant idea, which is sure to be a huge hit.
