It’s been brought to my attention that my hair is thinning
My son has a new bedtime procrastination tactic: Looking at old pictures on my phone. He does it under the guise of wanting to hang out with me, which makes him hard to refuse because I’ll take any second I can get these days. We get into my bed, AirPlay the photos to the TV and decide on a year.
Last night we were looking at 2009, and my husband happened to join us. At some point he said, “Mommy [that’s what he usually calls me in the presence of our son], when did your hair get so thin?” I was so shocked I didn’t say anything, and only later did I think to say, “Sometime between being a full-time mom, working full-time, home-schooling our child and a pandemic.” As soon as we were done I raided my beauty closet for thickening products (to no avail) and made a note to buy a whole new haircare routine in the morning.
Before I got around to this, I was catching up on my emails and came across Vegamour’s Gro Dry Shampoo. Since I’ve literally tried almost every dry shampoo known to man (and woman), I was flummoxed that this oil-absorbing, styling-refreshing spray is infused with the brand’s signature plant-based GRO Hair Serum, which has been clinically tested to help increase hair density and inhibit the production a DHT (a testosterone byproduct that slows down the hair follicles and leads to hair thinning). I saw this as a sign that I was meant to buy it. (I did.)
While I was on the site I did a little more poking around, and also bought the GRO Hair Foam, which is a styling mousse infused with the aforementioned serum. (I don’t see myself using a serum on my already-oily scalp, which is why I opted for this route.) The brand also offers a wide array of products for longer lashes and bushier brows, as well as supplements, tools and hair accessories that are designed to optimize healthy hair and minimize shedding.
I’m really excited to start the new year with these clean, vegan, cruelty-free products in an effort to forget the effects 2020 has had on my hair (including my newfound lackadaisical attitude toward maintaining my color and cut). Hopefully when my son and I (and my husband) look at pictures of 2021 one day, they’ll say, “Wow, Mommy, look how thick and long your hair is!”
