If there’s any night of the entire year to go for over-the-top luminous lids, it’s New Year’s Eve. I’m talking about no-holds-barred glitter, and why? Because you can. Here are my top five picks—all of which are currently in my makeup drawer—even though they only get trotted out for especially festive occasions.
1. Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in “Fallen Angel”
There’s no one I’d rather ring in 2015 with than Charlotte Tilbury—and this palette gives you four glimmering shadows that can be mixed and matched to coordinate with any ensemble. You get major gleam when these shadows are used dry, but you can dial up the drama even more by applying them with a slightly wet brush. Keep in mind this is a limited-edition offering, so let’s just say it probably won’t be around when we celebrate 2016.
2. Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in “Convoitise”
If you want to go for the gold this NYE, don’t do it without this luxurious cream eyeshadow. Packed with more shimmer than you can ask for, it’s also guaranteed to stay put well into the wee hours of morning. P.S. It can be used as a long-wear eyeliner as well.
3. Makeup For Ever Aqua Cream
Seriously, I’ve never met an eyeshadow with more staying power than this one. Even if you break a sweat on the dance floor, this highly pigmented cream shadow isn’t going anywhere. I’m partial to the pots (although this formula is also available in a pencil), there’s no shortage of show-stopping shimmer.
4. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow
New Year’s Eve is expensive, so I totally get wanted to save money in the makeup department. With these award-winning cream shadows, you can get all of the metallic color payoff without the major payout.
5. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in “Polyester Bride”
Forget the Naked palette tonight and go all out with Urban Decay’s “Polyester Bride.” This universally flattering shade can be used all over the lid—and topped off with your contour color of choice, but I’m especially fond of using it at the inner corners to really make your peepers pop.
So what’s your makeup plan for tomorrow night?
