When it comes to facial self-tanning, timing can be an issue. I usually try to take care of it at night with James Read’s Sleep Mask Tan (a FABULOUS product)—but alas, sometimes I get so caught up with my rolling and other products that I simply forget. And during the day is tough because I feel like putting sunscreen and makeup on top of my self-tanner can interfere with the results. You can use it all over to keep your summer sun-kissed color going strong, but it’s even better for contouring because the matte powder-based self-tanner produces color that can stick around for up to 5 days. Think of this as a stencil of sorts that takes the guesswork out of figuring out where to place your darker contour color.
Proper application and blending are key to success with this product, which is why I recommend opting for the $55 version that includes a kabuki brush if you don’t already have one. Don’t worry, the powder comes with very detailed instructions on how to go for the long-lasting glow—but if in doubt, go for the lighter shade (available on VitaLiberata.com). This gives you a chance to hone your skills over the cooler months ahead, before it’s time to go for deeper, darker color next summer.
