Few things get me as excited as taking a skin quiz and getting a recommended regimen. Not only does this take the guesswork out of selecting the product combination that will help me achieve my skin goals, I like that it just might introduce me to a formulation I may not have otherwise picked. So when I learned about Dermatologic Cosmetic Laboratories, the high-tech skincare line developed by the brains responsible for making glycolic acid part of the collective anti-aging conscience, I didn’t waste any time.
After answering four simple questions about skin type, sensitivity, breakout propensity and my main skin concerns, I got a laundry list of product recommendations designed just for my needs. While there’s no way I could physically incorporate all of them into my regimen (even if I had all the time and money in the world)—and there was no way their PR was going to send me everything—it really showed me the breadth of products this line offers.
After submitting my list of recos, I was excited to see what would come in my skincare package, and here’s what I’ve been using for the past few weeks…
C-Scape High Potency Night Booster 30: This is one of those products I proably wouldn’t have selected on my own, since I’ve been “trained” to believe that I only need vitamin C for antioxidant protection in the morning. But, alas, vitamin C also has anti-aging and skin-brightening benefits, so the more the merrier, right? I know this product works for two reasons… First, L-ascorbic acid (the most effective form of vitamin C) is at the number-two spot on the ingredient list. Second, it stung a bit upon application (and this is normal for a vitamin C product because it has to be an acidic formulation in order to penetrate). The creamy serum has a bit of a gritty texture when you first apply it, but then it quickly absorbs after a little massaging and you’re left with dewy, radiant skin.
Multi-Action Penta Peel: I’ve never met a peel pad I didn’t like because it’s basically the lazy girl’s way of literally wiping away visible signs of skin damage. Used just a few times a week, these pads give your skincare regimen a little extra oomph with a blend of five gentle acids, without over-exfoliating.
Hydra Boost Finishing Serum: This was another wildcard product, and it’s essentially a concentrated hyaluronic acid serum that’s all about hydration. The beauty of this moisturizing ingredient is that anyone can use it (it won’t clog pores) and it doesn’t a fabulous job of plumping up fine lines instantly. I have found that it serves up enough moisture on its own, but it can be layered under your regular cream, lotion or gel if you’re on the drier side.
Peptide Plus Eye Treatment: I’ve really fallen for this eye cream because it’s just the texture I like. It’s rich without being greasy, and not a morning or night has gone by without it. With peptides to stamp out those crow’s feet and a noticeable line-plumping and puff-reducing effect, it’s a winner.
Skin Renewal Complex SPF 30: If you like a multitasking product, then this is your jam. Exfoliation, calming, hydration, antioxidant protection and SPF come together in this one superb product—and if you add up the cost for the individual products you’d need to take care of all this, the $130 price tag actually isn’t that bad.
Essential Protection SPF 30: With summer officially upon us, a new sunscreen was in order. This is my go-to for pool parties and beach days because it offers no-muss, no-fuss, water-resistant broad-spectrum UV protection in a lovely hydrating base. My skin drinks it up so there’s no need for a lot of rubbing!
I’ve noticed a major difference in my skin with these products alone, so imagine what DCL could do for your skin! With products for every skin concern (i.e. acne, discoloration, oiliness, sensitivity and more), body issues like dry skin, sun damage, aging hands and itchy, irritated skin, and even hair, this innovative (and effective) brand literally has you covered from head to toe!
