The money-saving salon tip you need to know

When my colorist switched salons a few months ago, there was no doubt I was going to follow her because I wouldn’t trust my tresses to anyone else. I’m finally come to terms with the fact that booking a color (or haircut) no longer includes a blowout, but I wasn’t expecting a new upcharge for the gloss she always uses as a last step. Apparently the old salon was more lax about these little extras, but no worries, because I found a little work around…

Instead of opting in for the gloss at the salon, I do it myself when I get home. (And since I only splurge for the post-color blowout when I have an event or special occasion I never feel bad about ruining someone’s professional handiwork.) My choice: Rita Hazan Foaming Gloss Shine Enhancer.

This foam is beyond easy to use… All you have to do is hop in the shower, wash your hair, leave this foam in for three minutes, rinse, condition and get on with your usual styling regimen. It’s available in clear, as well as formulas for boosting golden tones and toning down brassiness (which is especially great for those with blonde and gray hair). Even better, you can use it as much as you want to maintain your hair’s healthy shine and sheen without having to wait for your next trip to the salon. Now that’s what I call beating the system!
