This new serum simulates the benefits of sleep

Sleep is one of those things we can’t ever seem to get enough of, but we try really, really hard to make the most of it. Obviously nighttime is primetime for treating our skin, and there’s certainly a place for products designed to work after dark. One of the latest to just hit store shelves is Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, and this high-tech anti-ager goes to work on all the visible signs of aging while you take some time off.

This serum’s main mode of action is simple: Eliminate the buildup of “junk” in the cells to optimize the cell’s natural repair process and performance. Our skin has a tougher time doing this on its own as we get older, but this serum steps in to jumpstart the process—and improve signs of time (including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, loss of elasticity and more), protect against future damage and hydrate skin at the same time.

In order to stress the importance of nocturnal skin recovery, Estée Lauder sponsored a study that looked at the effect of sleep on the skin, and the results are pretty astonishing. When comparing good vs. poor quality sleepers, poor sleepers’ signs of aging are twice as bad as good sleepers. Even more, poor sleepers’ skin repairs damage less efficiently, and loses 30% more water than good sleepers’ skin.

If Estée Lauder could figure out how to add a few more hours to the day so we could get more sleep, we’d be all set—but in the meantime we’ll have to compensate for our hectic schedule with this serum, and trust that our skin won’t know the difference!
