Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes it’s hard to find products that meet all of my hair’s needs. My strands are dry thanks to over-processing, yet my scalp is oily (which is why I blow through a can of dry shampoo a week). My hair also has a slight wave but it can be easily coaxed straight, and I definitely need some help in the frizz department when I don’t want to subject my strands to a flat iron. So let’s just say it’s hard to choose just one off-the-shelf shampoo or condition because I need one for dry hair, one for damaged hair and one color-treated hair.
Enter Function of Beauty, a new way to make sure your shampoo and conditioner take your hair’s unique attributes into consideration. The first step is building your hair profile, where you select your hair type (straight, wavy, curly or coily), hair structure (fine, medium or coarse) and hair moisture (dry, normal or oily). Then, you select 5 hair goals from a list of 17. The options run the gamut from fixing split ends, lengthening, anti-frizz, shine, oil control, color protection, etc.—and each one you choose adds extra ingredients designed to help you meet that specific goal.
Now comes the fun part… You name your formula (either with your name or basically anything you’d like), choose your color (green, peach or yellow) and select your fragrance. The options include essential oils, cucumber mint, grapefruit hibiscus, sandalwood violet, white tea jasmine and passion fruit papaya. Decisions, decisions…
All that’s left is choosing a size and you can even get different sizes of shampoo and conditioner because don’t you always finish one first? (I have short hair, so I always have extra conditioner.) It took me less than 3 minutes to go through the process, and voila… My bespoke haircare is on the way!
My 16 ounces of shampoo and 8 ounces of conditioner came to a mere $32, which is hardly expensive compared to the prestige products that are out there. And the fact that they’re customized for ME makes it even better. Do you agree?
